Lyndey lost her beautiful son Blair in the early hours of Sunday 17 April. He was admitted to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital the Thursday before with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Lyndey and her partner John were in Sicily and flew back immediately. By the time she arrived on Saturday morning at 7am Blair was medically sedated, on a ventilator, dialysis and everything else modern medicine could throw at him. His Dad, Nigel Milan, had been with him from the Thursday when he was admitted and was magnificent, as was the hospital. Lyndey was by Blair's bedside for 17½ precious hours. There were 30 people in the waiting room, another 30 outside and even more old school friends at the pub! Blair would be pleased. Lyndey says: 'He was the most positive person I had ever met, and it was a joy and a privilege to have been his mother. Blair was farewelled in a heartfelt service in the chapel of his old school, Barker College on Saturday 30 April with an audience of 800. His parents, sister Lucy and a few close friends spoke at the service. Lucy also sang beautifully. A celebration followed at Sydney Theatre which culminated in theatre-style tributes by many of his friends. They sang, read poetry and spoke of their love for Blair. The finale was an appropriately upbeat, for Blair was a party man, video compilation put together by his friends from Charles Sturt University. Click here for information about The Blair Milan Fund.
