Mid-Western Regional Council has revealed that this year’s Australia Day ambassador for our region is celebrity chef and media personality Lyndey Milan OAM.
Lyndey has spent over four decades inspiring Australians to connect through food, wine and culture. A familiar face on television and in print, she has transformed the way Australians think about food through nine best-selling cookbooks, nine international TV series and her influential role as Food Director of The Australian Women’s Weekly for nearly ten years.
As a Councillor of the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, she chaired the Sydney Royal Wine, Dairy Produce and Fine Food Shows, and became the first female Vice-President. She co-founded a mentoring program for female chefs, and was a founding board member of Women in Hospitality.
Her advocacy extends to health and community causes as an Ambassador for both the Leukaemia Foundation and Cure Cancer.
Honoured with the Medal of the Order of Australia for her service to hospitality and the community, Lyndey embraces her role as an Australia Day Ambassador with pride. She says for her, being Australian means celebrating diversity, resilience and the joy of coming together around the table.
Lyndey Milan will deliver the Australia Day Ambassador address at the region’s official ceremony at Rylstone Hall on Monday, 26 January.
